Is your child wearing the right size bike helmet and is it correctly fitted? Join us this Sunday, May 21st from 9am-Noon for the annual Kids Bike Safety Rodeo at the Issaquah Community Center. The Downtown Issaquah Association and the City of Issaquah are hosting the event during National Bike Everywhere Month, providing kids with a fun opportunity to learn about bike safety, riding skills, and proper helmet fitting.

The Kiwanis Club of Issaquah will provide a limited number of free youth bike helmets and the Issaquah Police Department staff will be on site to teach kids safe riding skills in a city environment. The Bicycle Center of Issaquah will be doing bike safety checks and Compass Outdoor Adventures will be leading Geocache scavenger ride and providing their mountain bike rental fleet to demo. The Downtown Issaquah Association will be teaching kids and parents how to properly fit bike helmets.

The Kids Bike Safety Rodeo will also include local vendors, music, and raffle prizes. This is a zero waste, zero cost event, bring a refillable water bottle and receive a raffle ticket.

“The Bike Rodeo is a great way to get children engaged on the benefits of bicycling,” said Mary Joe de Beck, from the City of Issaquah – Government Office of Sustainability team. “The City of Issaquah has a goal to promote ‘active transportation’ in our City and we are pleased to be providing our youth with this unique opportunity to become more involved in bicycling.”

“The Kids Bike Safety Rodeo is a fun way to engage kids in safe riding and bike safety education,” said Brenda DeVore, with the Downtown Issaquah Association.”
