Newport High School junior Jordan Harnar, a vocal and guitar student at Kaleidoscope School of Music, had the idea to recreate the classic 80s song “We Are the World” as a timely message during the 2020 pandemic, and solicited the help of 11 other Kaleidoscope music students on vocals, guitar, keyboards and drums. Jordan coordinated the students recording separately in their homes, supervised the division of parts, and spent a lot of hours learning two new computer programs to create the audio mix and final video, showing both impressive initiative and impressive follow-through. The video will premiere on our YouTube channel August 31st at 4 PM:

In this video, young artists from the bands of Kaleidoscope School of Music will be singing the widely known song, We are the World. Originally this song was written by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson to help raise money for Famine relief in Africa in 1985 and was sung again by the US in 2010 after the earthquake in Haiti. “Today, me and my fellow participants of this project, bring to you, our version of this song in honor of all the lives that the 2020 coronavirus has affected. We hope that you will consider donating to UNICEF USA who has set up a specific mission to fight against the coronavirus. Your donation will help provide resources that healthcare workers need to provide care to patients of the coronavirus and will help support communities by finding ways to provide online learning to everyone so that young learners can stay home and are protected from the coronavirus. I would also like to recognize that we stand with the Black lives matter movement as it is a prevalent issue and has been for years, decades, centuries and a change needs to happen in order to change the constant injustices that blacks have to face. A link to the black lives matter website is also below for more info and donations. Thank you for your support and please enjoy the Kaleidoscope School of music’s rendition of WE ARE THE WORLD!” – Jordan Harnar, Issaquah Youth We are the World Project Leader
“It is inspirational to see our youth stand together!” – Charles McCrone
