As you plan your GiveBIG contributions, we ask you to remember DIA. Its entire mission is to keep the historic downtown alive, inviting, and vibrant when our businesses need it most. Next year will have its own challenges, but if we work together, it will be a year of celebration for our strong community.

We take our mission to cultivate a thriving Olde Town seriously and with undaunted purpose. With your support, we will bring more pedestrians to Downtown Issaquah retailers, merchants, service providers, and restaurants. We are a community that pulls together, helps others tear down barriers, and succeed against all odds.

DIA continuously works with Downtown Issaquah businesses by providing them with resources, best practices, and funding opportunities to weather the current crisis. Downtown Issaquah Association’s special connection with its donors, volunteers and the people who live, work, and play in the community is borne of a special camaraderie seeded more than a century ago. It grows in good times and in bad, with long-timers and with newcomers, who add more diversity to the close-knit town.

What is GiveBIG?

During the GiveBIG statewide fundraising campaign, individuals and organizations come together across Washington to invest in our community. When we give, we take a proactive step towards creating the society we want to live in.

Every spring, the excitement for GiveBIG builds through grassroots-based word-of-mouth, social media, an extensive multimedia promotional campaign, and local celebrities and sports teams firing up the community to show their generosity. This year’s GiveBIG campaign kicks off April 20, and culminates with 48-hour giving event on May 4-5!

In 2020, 91,618 donations were made to 1,635 nonprofits. These donations combined with donor-advised funds (DAF) and IRA contributions, matching donations from individuals and companies, and in-kind contributions from local media companies totaled $19.2 million!

GiveBIG was started by the Seattle Foundation in 2011 and transferred to 501 Commons in 2018. Since it is inception, GiveBIG has raised $144 million for nonprofits.

Why Give to Downtown Issaquah?

In an ongoing quest to serve the unprecedented need within our community and businesses, the Downtown Issaquah Association (DIA) has pulled out all the creative stops to raise money and plan safety-first programming to maintain the vitality of Historic Downtown. Donations to DIA have resulted in a spirited downtown with streets lined with flower baskets, interactive online fun engagement, and a pedestrian walkway on a closed main thoroughfare for outdoor dining and play. The Historically hip creative district draws visitors from throughout Western Washington.

Activities remain constant and safe. Volunteers gather on Keep Issaquah Beautiful Day to clean, plant, weed and beautify downtown and surrounding areas. The Issaquah Community donates to Flower Baskets on Front, large, flourishing, hanging flower baskets adorning downtown in the summer.

Downtown Issaquah has been named one of only 8 Creative Arts Districts in the State of Washington, a state designation applauding the large number per capita of visual and performing artists. DIA ensures art is everywhere — from Plein Air artists capturing the friendly downtown, to music streaming from balconies and in the streets, to art contests engaging community members young and old.

DIA is only the web that ties: It is the volunteers, donors, and the people who live, work, and play in the historic district who make downtown special.
